Hya!

I ran into problems with Java applets in IE5. I used to use internet banking which loads java applets to display the modules.
From one day to the other I am not able to load this page. All I get is a little icon in the upper left corner instead of the login screen, which is java based.

I tried to delete all downloaded applets and reload the page again - to no effort.

I'm outta ideas... Anybody help?

System Specs:

Windows 2000 Professional SP1
Windows 2000 Resource Kit Rofessional
Internet Explorer 5.00.31.03.1000

Haha Fido that was a good one.

No, my java settings are enabled accept signated ones, drop unsigned.
Java in general is working fine it's just that site in particular.

New ideas please...

Does your banking site have a FAQ or instructions for on-line banking? They might have a solution if a lot of users had the same problem.

that was definitely good for a laugh Lake

the banks probably wont even realize there's a problem . . and once they D they won't hurry to fix it . . because that means SPENDING $$ on their customers, instead of making it off of them

no . . .wait . . . that was just me staring at the "half empty" beer again Black Eye Smile

FYI

I took the step to IE 5.5 SP1. Didn't help, I still can't use the java stuff on my bank site...
Strange thing is, it's just this site. On all other sites I visited in the mean time there's no problem.

How do I get rid of all installed (downloaded) java applets in my system? I cleaned up the %USER%\Temp. Internet Files and the %SYSTEMROOT%\Downloaded Program Files folder.
What did I miss?

They are all located here:

%SYSTEMROOT%\JAVA\Packages\

They are listed as ZIP files, but those ZIP files contain a zipped copy of the CLASS file. There are many other thing located under the %SYSTEMROOT%\JAVA\ directory, so you might want to poke around a bit.

Hope that's enough to get started in the right direction!

I at least found the "bad apple". It was a screw up of the Micro$oft Java Virtual Machine.
Some Java applet messed it up and gone was my java...
I found an article about it in the MS KB and installed the latest VM, turned out that I needed the SP2 to install it on W2K as there is no separate download for it for W2K only for the rest of the Windoze systems :-(

Thank you for all the help. It is always a pleasure to have you guys around here knowing if help is needed there are at least good suggestions pointing in the right direction.
