I am on a dual-boot system, 98/2k, my 98 partition was kinda messed up, so I did something really stupid... I formatted C: without backing up any of the boot files. now after reinstalling win98, I can not get into 2k. Is there anyway to get my dual-boot option back? I REALLY don't want to have to format win2k again...
oh and no i don't have an emergency repair disk |

Not entirely sure about this but if you put 2K on another partition or drive just access the winnt folder from a dos prompt and type winnt. Worth a shot anyway...[ ]
Sometimes it sux to be me, sometimes it doesn't. Go figure |

Use the install cd. Repair the partition instead of a re-install, and let it do it automatically (not the repair console). That should repair it, it's been a while since I've had to do it. |

You don't need the repair disks (I've never made them). If you boot from the Win2K CD, it'll search your HDD for previous installs. It then gives you the option to install, or repair. Choose repair, then then non-repair console option (repairs automatically). It should reload the boot loader. As I said, it's been a while since I've done it (I'll be doing it again this weekend I'd say), but it should work. |

Actually the Repair option isn't very effective if the boot.ini and ntldr files are missing. If it doesn't work you might try tricking it and creating those files as blank text files and change the extension or in the case of NTLDR, remove the extension. If that doens't work...You're SCREWED!

You don't trick it to create, but you create blank ones on your own...format C with FAT/FAT32, then get to a PC and create text files called "boot.ini" and "ntldr" with those exact extensions or lack of extensions. Then boot off of a Win98 boot disk and copy them to the C drive. Then boot off the Win2K CD and try a repair...it might not work but try it.

Yes you can, just remember that the boot.ini file needs to be pointing to the correct partition where Win2K is installed...did you get the ones I sent you? I modified the boot.ini file to point to the second partition on the primary IDE drive.

think i'd tell you what my system is before i try those, please tell me whether or not it will work.
I have 2 physical Hard drives, 1 is 40 GB 1 is 6 GB. I seperated the 40 GB into 3 partitions (C: E: F: ) and the 6 GB is in it's own partition (D: ). Win98 is on C: Win2k is on E:
Thanks. |

Your system setup looks good, but first try it IAmMarauder's way then if that doesn't work try the fake file trick. Yes to your last post also, put both files on the root of the C drive.
