OK - has anyone ever seen this before and / or figured out how to fix it?

We use MS Office 2000 in our department, and we do a lot of e-mailing documents back and forth to each other. These documents often include hyperlinks to other documents in our share. The hyperlink is always something like \\server1\share$\general_bullshit\blah_blah_blah.doc

BUT - here's the weird part - when you send the document as an attachment, the hyperlink changes to c:\blah_blah_blah.doc

Happens every time.

Anyone?

could it be that those hyperlinks were relative to the document and not the shared drive some how?

I'm not sure what you mean, starsky. We all have the same mapped shares, all have access to them. If you send a shortcut to the document instead of actually attaching the document in an e-mail, all is OK. It's just that when you send it as an attachment, the hyperlink changes.

Evil SmileEvil Smile Couldn't resist it!

I tried duplicating it, but I only have office 97 where I was. I also looked on MS support site Sad Smile with no luck. I'll try next time I get Office 2000 around me.

OK, Spot. I found an old machine with Office 97 on it and created a document with a hyperlink in it and e-mailed it to myself. Link was fine. Created a duplicate of the document with Office 2k, link changed to C:\Temp\blah.doc

Hmmmmmmmmmm

it's actually simple. (I am guessing this happens when you try to email a doc you have been working on.. as an attachment, not one that you specifically select from the network via UNC ? ?)

if you are not the "owner" of the document on the network, Office ( and by extension outlook2k) will open a "temp" copy of the doc(locally) for working on it. If you attempt to "re-use" the document it attaches the temp copy on your HD because you ARE the owner of it

the same thing happens when you open documents that you RECEIVE as email attachemnts

of course, I could be wrong ?

There is NO spoon !
