I didnt buy it from Amazon. I just linked their description page. Toshiba didnt have a specs page up so I google searched for it and came up with Amazon. I bought them from Best Buy. Had a great deal including $400 worth of rebates. The cost ended up low enough that I bought a second one. My only negative comment is that they came pre-installed with XP HOME. Nothing FORMAT C: couldnt take care of. So far im very happy with its output. Crisp video, good sound, Long battery life (for now), DVD/CDRW combo and 256 mg of RAM. Although its a little on the heavy side compared to similar units (10oz heavier than the HP and 1 pound heavier than the Thinkpad) but still 8lbs is a decent weight.
Its running XP PRO right now.......should be up and running a dual boot with Mandrake by the weekend. LAN and Modem drivers will more than likely be my only problem installing Linux (so ive been reading). But I should have them compiled by the weekend with alittle help from Code_Monkey and Google. |

I'll be lowering my output as well. My second box will be shut off since I don't use it for anything but SETI. Just an absolute waste having it running 24/7 for just that.

I burned up [XX(] my backup machine (AthlonXP 1800+) last weekend and then dissassembled its remains for parts for another project. My total CPU cycles have dropped by 42% from 3000 MHz to 1733 MHz. |
