I've noticed that the win2k notepad does not a size limit on the file it opens, kinda like wordpad, and was wondering if there is a way to install it over the win98 one.

I know i can use 3rd party programs or just wordpad for it, but i like notepad Smile

i use a free-ware app i found a long time ago called "notepad plus"

it alows you to do all kinds of neat stuff that neither version of notepad ever does (including having multiple documents open in "notepad" without having like 6 notepad windows on your desktop

I'd hit some of the common free-ware sites like nonags.com downloads.com and zdnet.com and see if you can find a recent copy

all i had to do was unzip it and copy it into my windows directory (overwriting the old one)

i always keep a backup copy of the old one named notepad.old tucked into another directory just in case i should even need to go back

I tried to copy my NOTEPAD.EXE from a Win2K machine to a Windows 95 machine. NOTEPAD.EXE will not run because it trying to make a call to COMDLG32.DLL that does not exist. If you were brave you could try to replace the COMDLG32.DLL on your 9x box, but as a wise man once said "your results may vary"

Why does Notepad have a max. filesize??
I have tried to use Wordpad and various other freebie replacements but I didn't like any of them as much as good ol' Notepad.
Does anybody know of a replacement that is virtually identical except for the filesize limit?

NP+ is definitely the way to go . . the file isn't any larger than the original and it adds lots of nifty stuff

When I get back to "Casa Del Brain" I'll try to email you a copy of the version i have (if you remind me tomorrow)

I use notepad plus for everything.

Ulimited filesize is good, as is text highlighting for html/c++/perl and such.
