Just removed my heatsink and noticed that the lettering from my AMD Athlon XP1600 CPU is embedded into the bottom of the heatsink now. It's soo fine that you can easily read the letters. I can even see the outline of the edge of the core. I'm sure that the vibration from the fan plus the pressure of the clip combined with the raised letters of the CPU core has etched itself into the soft aluminum of the heatsink.

This confirms the fact that the heatsink does not make significant contact with the core because of the lettering. I wonder if anyone has thought about lapping those letter off or not? Guess I'm going to lap the heatsink a bit and see what else I can do to this puppy... Big SmileWink Smile[}Smile]

Did the heatsink, perchance, mold itself around the lettering so as to make 100% contact with the core Confused:

The only thing that was making any decent heat transfer had to be the Artic Silver II. Inspecting the heatsink the area around the letters don't look like it's been disturbed at all...

I had this same experience with the Vantec 6030 I used to use. I wonder if it's on the Copper X I got a couple of weeks ago???

My Volcano 6Cu+ has it on the copper insert. Maybe it is because the copper is more maleable than the aluminum HSF.
