Screensaver Tweaks (to improve your times)
- Set it to run all the time
- Then set Windows to not use a screensaver
- Dislplay properties (right click on desktop | properties, or control panel | Dispaly)
- Screensaver Tab
- Select None from dropdown box
- Click The OK command button
- Running the graphics of the Seti Screensaver really slows down the speed of doing a work unit because the processor has to spend resources it could be using on the WU to display the ever changing graphics
Using the command line version takes less resources which allows your processor to finish more work units.
It's easy with some SETI add on programs
- There are several GUI (Graphical User Interface) programs to manage the command line version of SetiAtHome, including
- SetiDriver
- SetiHide
- SetiStash
- SetiQueue
- SetiQueue acts as a Proxy Server for SetiAtHome
- It is commonly used when you have several machines running SETI on a LAN or home network
- SetiQueue will send and recieve WU's to all clients contacting it just like the servers at University of California, Berkeley
- SetiQueue will forward the collected data to Berkeley and download new data for distribution
- Several applicaitons exist to track your WU results and progress
- SetiSpy
- SetiWatch and SetiLog
- SetiWatch monitors clients across your network
- SetiLog keeps track of the data from previous WU's
- SETI Statistics Spreadsheet
- This spreadsheet allows you to monitor the SETI statistics of each member in a SETI team
- Average WU per day
- Average CPU dedication
- History over past 10 weeks(Team History is stored from start of app)
- Predictions over forthcoming weeks
- Distribution of team members
- SetiTeam
- Shows your team or group rankings
- Instantly finds and highlights your position
- Shows the national flag of each team member
- Can be sorted
- Automatically saves table contents
- Save results for future comparisons
- Save results in Word, Excel, HTML, Notepad, Clipboard formats
- Can print a neatly formatted hardcopy

SetiDriver
Switching to SetiDriver
- If you are already processing a WU (Work Unit)
- Finish the WU w/o obtaining a new WU (Work Unit)
- Place a text file named stop_after_send.txt in the directory where your SetiAtHome application is running
- Open notepad.exe or another text program
- Select File from the menu tools
- Select Save
- In the Save As dialog box, Save in window navigate to the folder where your SETI application is located
- In the File Name window enter stop_after_send.txt
- In the Save As Type window should be Text Documents (or All Files as long as you entered the .txt at the end of stop_after_send)
- Let the WU (Work Unit) upload when finished
- The stop_after_send.txt file will keep a new WU from being downloaded
- Shut down the SETI screensaver version
- Save the User_Info.sah file from the directory where SetiAtHome is installed
- Uninstall SetiQtHome
- Or TURN OFF the Screensaver Version
- Save the User_Info.sah file from the directory where SetiAtHome is installed
- Uninstall SetiQtHome discarding the WU you were processing

Installing & Configuring SetiDriver
Create a new directory named Seti or something similar in a location of your choice. If you have a particular directory structure you follow use it. Keep in mind that you'll probably be using this directory in the future as you add other SETI goodies. It is not unusual to migrate from SetiDriver to another application or to *upgrade* the commnad line version to a service. Consider creating your installation directory on the root of your drive. If you add machines later whose primary function is to run SETI, having the directory on the root drive makes it easy to find. This can be helpful when installing an app like SetiWatch which monitors and displays the progress of SETI on each machine in your network.
& download these apps or follow the links
<ol type=1>Command line client for windows [i386-winnt-cmdline], the url will have unix in it, that's okay, scroll down the page until you find i386-winnt-cmdline.exe, this will work for Windows 9x & NT
Seti Driver to control command line client
SetiSpy
</ol id=1>
Save these downloads & the User_Info.sah file you saved into the Seti directory you created
Configure Seti Driver
- Maximum Processes to match your number of CPU's (1)
- Set Desired Cache to several days worth of WU's, start with 10 if unsure
- Check Hide Processing, this will keep the command line (DOS Box) from having to be visibly open
- Uncheck Auto Transmit unless you are always connected to Internet (cable, dsl, lan)
- Set SETI priority to Low, unless you won't be using machine
- Insert proxy info
- If you can only conncet to Internet through a proxy server, enter proxy data
- Connecting to a SetiQueue enter data like this
- setiqueue.net (when using name)
- 192.168.0.2 (Setiqueue located at this IP on your local network)
- Default port for SetiQueue is 5517
- If you setup SetiQueue to use a different port, or have been assigned a port, enter that port
- Check Seti Driver & Create SETILog
- You can also check Use SetiSpy, you can download SetiSpy into your directory
- Click the Submit command button
- Seti Driver will put an icon in your task tray where you can access it (when running)
Create shortcuts to Seti Dirver
- Startup Folder will start SETI when you logon
- Quick Lauch bar (if you use it)
- Any other places to give you easy access for starting SETI
