I have a Tyan Tiger 230T dual P-III mobo, and I am a little confused about the processors that it uses. The guy that I got it from told me that normal 256Kb P-III's would work fine for the dual processors; however, after looking at the specs page on the tyan website it looks as if only the Tualatin (512Kb) processors will work in dual mode. Does this make sense? I was hoping that the normal one's would work since I am short on money at the moment, or am I just SOL?

Thanks,
~Varney

you can use coppermine P3s in dual or tualitin P3 in dual IF they have 512k cache.

The 256k Tualitin won't work in dual setups.

anything fcpga will work but fcpga2 must have 512k cache

You say that anything FCPGA will work in a dual setup, however I take it that the FCPGA Celerons won't. I think that the Celerons are just a 100 mhz version of the P-III, but I have still never heard of a dual Cel....

Thanks,

The old PPGA celerons were capable of running in a dual CPU board but the new fcpga (533mhz and above)Celeron2 are not.

To expand on that, there are supposedly PPGA 533 Celeron's. The FC-PGA 533's are referred to as Celeron 533A's and these are the coppermine ones--which don't work in SMP

i also have the 230t setup... u kan use normal p3z on it or p3 Tualitin with the 512 cache. dont bother with any celerones cuase it wont work, i tried since i have two bp6z with 333z and my other dual setup is a MSI649d. the board does not overclock at all. but it is rock solid hardware. i say save the money and buy 2 Tualitinz (1.266mhz)when u kan afford it. they r worth the money and if u do SETI, a WU will be done easily in 6hrz... if u need any extra help PM or email me and ill be glad to help
