I have both an Ausus 6600 32mb Deluxe (Gefore 1) card
and an Asus 7100 Pure 32mb the Asus V7100 Pure MX2 32MB,
I purchased the 7100 (retail) around Christmas and it came with NO FAN INSTALLED as stated in the review/comparison, I added Socket 7 HSF unit to Video card and it work well.

Both of the system I run are running nearly the same relevant hardware
P3 600E running at 800 both Asus Mainboards
system 1
P3V4X (Slot 1) w/ Asus 6600 Deluxe
CUV4X (flip chip) w/ Asus 7100 Pure
both have
P3 600E's OCed to 800 (6*133)
256mb system ram,
Quantum Fireball 7200rpm 30gb HDD's

The Asus 6600 3Dmark score a 5249
The 7100 mx2 system 3DMark Scores =4865

The difference is likley to come from the fact that the P3V4X is running Kingmax PC150 (case 2 @133)ram while the CUV4X is running PC 133 (cas 3)

Starsky....the 256 card would not OC to the hilt. It would lock up tighter than hell.

srxtreme... I used to have a 6600 pure card but I got rid of it a while back. Wish I still had it for this review. It sounds like your 7100 card got similar scores as the one I was testing.

Yep, same here my GF 256 Ocs up from the default of 120/166 to 140/190, but if I go any higher I locks up tight even with the addition of improved cooling, Probably due older high requirments of th .25 micron process, compared to the MX2 .18 micron. (higher voltage=High operating temps)
The MX2 will run stably with the OC settings maxed.

Hanging on to the Asus 6600 (GF1)for now because of the Video and TV in/out features. May be for quit a while looking at the pricing on the New Asus V8200 Geforce 3.... OUCH!!

Asus annouced yesterday to be shipping in the beginning of April, V8200 Pure and V8200 Deluxe retailing for $549 and $598 respectively.

BTW: Very good article/ review and good upgrade advice.
I compared the same cards when builing my son's new system at Christmas and went with MX2 due to newer .18 Technolgy and the fact that it was a bit cheaper at the time, plus the fact that I obviously prefer Asus products.
