i'm not too sure how Grub works, i do know that if you can some how get too dos/win you can run FDISK /mbr and the will removed the master boor record which should allow you to start up in win2k.
I believe that the grub config file is located here /etc/grub/conf i'm sure you can edit it to meet your needs unfortunatly i'm not sure how since i don't use GRUB i use lilo
Sorry i couldn't be anymore help, Squito did you come across any probs with grub |

In Linux Mandrake 7.2, i know you can go to DrakConf and then to DrakeBoot. There you will have the options of LILO Configuration. Click on the option "LILO is used to boot this system" and next time you boot it should start with LILO instead of GRUB.
Having a NTFS partition shouldn't matter tho, i know lilo can handle it so most likely GRUB can too..
Do make backups if you can
good luck keep us informed |

Quote:But, during the installation.. it will not let me do the bootloader option for some reasons.
You have to do the "Expert" installation to get have a choice between Grub/Lilo/None ...

Don't use DrakConf in LM 8.0 ... it crashes hard, segmented files and all ... Lilo is availible under Configuration/Other/LinuxConf on the KPanel (Start Menu ) ... open up LinuxConf and you'll see the button labled "boot mode" ...

That's true ... I did that once or twice ... I used my Win98 boot disk to get to DOS ...

No ... but I switched over to Lilo 'cause I like it better ... it's like an old friend ... [ ]

At last !! I managed to get back to my Win 2k. Thanks alot for the help men!!
After so many trials, I got it right with GRUB to change boot with my default o/s -Win 2K.

Squito: how do you changed the boot loader from GRUB to LILO ??
Although, now I'm back to Win 2K. It since that the o/s is half corrupted.
Some of the programs doesn't since to be working. I have just installed Norton Ghost 2001, and I would like to backup all of those programs (more than 60+) that I have in Win 2K. How can I do the backup of these programs without backup the whole partition.
Thanks again. |

See my earlier post ... you have two choices ... if Lilo isn't on the menu as I described, you'll have to reinstall using the "Expert" mode ...

You are probably right ... are you familiar with the Package Manager ...
You can intall the packages you need for Lilo and LinuxConf from there ...
I'm guessing all you need to install are the linuxconf, linuxconf-lib, linuxconf-util, and the lilo packages ...
Then you can change it like I mentioned in the previous post ...
Quote:Anyway, thanks for the help!!
You are most welcome ... happy to be of service ...

ME and 98 are the same thing underneath it all, as far as I know ... so I'd guess it's the same ...

It's all about jumping in and getting your hands dirty when it comes to Linux. Lots of research on the web and lots of playing around. Usually reloading once a week until you have everything working the way you want it to. Nothing beats OJT!!
