I have a friend who completely ignored my advice when they bought their computer and bought an i810 based peice of crap. Now they want it to play games better.
I'm looking for a voodoo 3 or a tnt or better PCI vid card for them. A voodoo 2 would even be alright.
If you have one, you can email me at rlmccull@telusplanet.net

The best PCI video card available by far is the ATI Radeon DDR 64MB (Now called the Radeon 7000 64MB DDR PCI, ATI Part# 100-100-730284). This card will blow away any GeForce2MX, especially a P.O.S. GeForce2 MX-200. It even outscores the Vooodoo5-5500 PCI. A few vendors on pricewatch have this card for between $64 and $79 each. Don't settle for anything less.

I got the 810 chipset curse.
It's damm near unupgradable.
If he has onboard sound, he CAN'T put a soundcard.
The vidcard will be slower than it shoudl be, since there is no way tu fully disable the onboard video.
Plus, the chipset sucks.

I got my all-in-wonder 128 that still plays games today, and i'm planning on upgrading it soon. (once my new comp is finished)

the i810e is a great chipset . . . as long as your mobo manufacturer didn't use a phoenix bios (that's why you can't disable the damn vid completely)

I picked up a couple of crapola OEM machines for next to nothing about 18 months ago, and the only problems I ever had with either of them was the crap 135 watt powersupply, and the "original oem load" installed on them

a quick format/clean install took care of the second problem, and moving them into non OEM size cases took care of the first problem (I should mention i got 6 months of usage out a a celery 2 566 that only cost me $115 with board/case/cpu/ram before the power supply died)

and I found a bargain on the new Matx cases with 300 watt enermax power supplies for like 45 each . . . shipped

in your defense tho, I must admit that I eventually replaced the i810 boards with some i815 boards so that I could use the option for AGP video if i so desire at some point down the road.

Bingo.
And on top of that, my board does not have and AGP slot.
Thus, I hate it.
