I am probably goin to end up reinstalling win2k but maybe someone has a suggestion. Just recently directx seems to be givin me problems. I have been running win2k with an nvidia tnt2 model 64/model 64 pro vid card. Everything has been ok but i started havin problems with directx. i wasnt sure wut dX version i had at the time and installed a directx 8.0 sdk and tried to use it but my programs didnt work. so i went and installed dx 8.1, not knowin wut dx version i had already and uninstalled the sdk. i think it was around then that directx wasnt workin right. i installed new vid drivers v2311 then v2710. there are still problems. Diablo vid test says vid drivers may not be compatible with dX version or sumtin...in quake3 i can no longer set gamma becuz it says setdevicegammaramp failed ...anyways im just freakin frustrated. i ran dxdiag and tested directdraw ok..but it wont let me test direct3d and there are no acceleration features. So i guess i should either find one of those scrubbers(if one can point me in the right direction it would be apreciated) and reinstall dx or reformat WOOWEEE!

I used it to remove a 8.1 that had expired since it was a beta at the time. I put in 8.0 and all is working great. I hope it works for you.

If i were gonna try and remove 8.0 i would probably drop back to 7.0 then test it to make sure it worked and go back up to 8.0.

might be wierd but that is the way i would do it.

Ok, I uninstalled directx using that scaper and then reinstalled 7.0 then 8.1 ... didn't find 8.0 right away so skipped installing it. But I actually passed the first dxdiag Direct3D test this time (spinning cube) but then the second test managed to give me the out of memory error. I'm starting to think it has something to do with my hardware. Any other ideas ???

Actually I may have fixed it ... I don't think reinstalling the directx had anything to do with it either but it didn't hurt. I updated my motherboards AGP driver and now everything seems to be fine. The only error report I'm getting in dxdiag now is that the registry is messed up but thats from the dxbuster I think. Anyway, it works. Thanks for the help.

if you're still having video problems you should also look for one of those nvidia scrubber programs to get rid of all the previous remnants in your system

or you could do it the manually, set your video back to generic vga video

and then do a search of your c drive for NV*.* and delete everything

then reboot and install the "new" NED's

temporary replacement signature . . . please stand by
