How can I change the start button text to have LESS than 5 characters? I've seen instructions on how to change it to more than 5, but I can't find any info on less than 5. I'd preferably like to know how to do it manually, because I don't want any more programs running in the background taking up my precious resources if I can help it :)

Yeah, just use spaces.
I was 99% sure it would work, then saw the screenshot of somebody at LWD.
Their 'Start' button was 'L W D'. (3 letters and 2 spaces).

Don't know if anybody has found out yet how to change the vertical piccy next to the start menu old skool stylee - the original topic seems to have gone dead, so I'm guessing people are still looking.

Ok I found a progie that will let you edit .exe's Dll's and so on. I forgot where i found it but i put it up on my site.. http://www.chill-a-hz.com/arts/scope.zip It's called ExEscope. Open it and find the explorer.exe copy you made and edit it here:

In the large column of info about this elsewhere on the forum I gave the answer in the form of instructions on my web page...I don't want to take credit for the work becase it is info I drew from many sources but if you go to www.siv.dynodns.net you should find the info under the link for Start button editing....I haven't looked at my own page in a while but the info to use more then 5 characters in under the UPDATE link there....
You know what....I just tried to go to my own web page to clear this up and it is down...gonna go home and check my server but check back at that address later if the link doesn't work...
