Having seen how people drive on forklifts, the thought of this scares me though... I know fork lift drivers who run into thinks right in front of them, when they arent carrying anything. Now what will happen when they are moving sideways?.. at least you see them coming when they are driving straight ahead and have time to dodge... now they can just match your path and still mow you down.

The technology is actually a couple years old I believe, but probably not well known. Most likely more expensive than its worth for most companies....
There are a couple other videos I've seen, one showed how well it faired over small obstacles and different terrain. I think it may have been for a bomb carrier type thing for the military. Most forklifts are stuck if they have even one wheel slip off a hard surface, these wheels apparently its not an issue.
Seeing how engineers are designing warehouses with just enough space between the racks to fit a forklift and an average sized pallet, this is a big plus. For one they can make the aisles smaller, but have more mobility. Or be able to fit a bigger machine in a smaller aisle without worrying about smashing things up as easily.
Wolven, having worked in a place where there were some idiots that drove straight into things, they could be driving a foam covered grocery cart in a completely flat empty field, and still crash into something.... Basically you shouldn't get anywhere near a moron operating any sort of equipment.

I've seen those before - really cool. In a lot of industrial settings, the guys using forklifts are the least skilled people on-site as our esteemed forum dawgs have alluded to. I know most of the guys working on unloading steel @ my shop were not the guys who should have been allowed to use anything more involved than a hammer (and weren't except when they got to put everyones' lives in jeopardy using the forklift!)

Automated shipping and recieving. No idiot on a forklift. Bots. Works great. Got a friend who will set it up. If you got a guy that can't drive a forklift..or towmotor as the yanks say...get rid of him.

This is the moment where I wish if I was a forklifts driver
So intertaining! Yeah Bam, it would look AWESOME on racing vehicles (unsure how fast they go though).

I wish I was still a forklift driver... I was damn good fitting a bigger lift into a smaller aisle (learned to operate a forklift in a rinky-dink facility that was really poorly laid out...). This would make things so much easier, not to mention a blast to play with!
Racing vehicles.... not sure how well the technology would work. I'd hazard a guess that traction would be an issue, as there is a much smaller contact patch on the airtrax wheels. Get those spinning fast and you'd probably just wear them out faster. Thats not really an issue with most forklifts, as they have quite a bit of weight to help things along, and race cars try to have as little weight as possible.
Now stick these on regular cars, and parallel parking will be a breeze!

I drove a forklift for a while years ago when I was an electrician. Not one of those tiny ones, though. I drove a big yellow diesel one with 5' front tires. It was fun but a son-of-a-bitch to start in the winter.
