This thread is for anyone who has a cool somethin or other that they think people might want to add to their bootdisk if they read/used the article.

I'll start it off with something sent in by one of the visitors to our site, who happened to read the boot disk article and send me a great email !

with his permission I've quoted a portion of his email, and LWD is mirroring the App he mentions, in case anybody else finds it useful !

Quote:
I was thinking though, that you may benefit from a small app that Microsoft offered long ago with the NT 3.1 Resource Kit, called Delpart.exe. Delpart.exe is a small program to delete NTFS-partisions. I have been using it for several years to also delete SCOUnix, Linux, Solaris partitions.

it's for deleting partitions so I'm sure it would work with your 98 boot disk

I don't think win 98 SE would deal very well with partitions disappearing though, if the app WOULD even run under windows

Hypoxic:

I was refreshing my knowledge of MSbatch.exe , infinst.exe , etc. . .

when I ran across an excellent existing tutorial page

http://www.onecomputerguy.com/install/install.htm

this guy has a wealth of useful information posted on his site. . and the URL above points directly to the sub-portion you are interested in

one note of caution: the msbatch . . . etc may work under win ME, But M$ says they don't

so it's obviously a USE AT YOUR OWN RISK kind of thing for ME users

Blame is for people who need a reason to be pissed off !

What went wrong for you with WIN ME? In 1991 I tried WIN 3.0 and ended up totally removing it, swearing I would never "do windows". But so many programs are now designed and/or optimized for WIN that I had to surrender. When I plugged together this here system, I bought ME, (at a discount), and after installing missing drivers and stuff and doing some tweaking for a few weeks, I guess I think it's maybe Ok.

Hope I win that Mandrake though!

Speaking of giving everyone a copy I've asked Mandrake to give me 100 copies of the boxed set we gave away so we could reward our forum members who bring other people to LWD. They have agreed to only give me 50 so you had best start bring people in to LWD or you won't get your copy.

OK I'm kidding they didn't send us shit, but I did ask for my own copy so I could do a "newbie install HOWTO". Tongue Smile[}Smile]
