|
Got a strange problem on my main Win XP machine here at home. As you know, you can right-click on your taskbar and uncheck "Lock the taskbar", which allows you to resize your taskbar, resize the toolbars in the taskbar, and move the toolbars around.
The thing is, on my main XP box, while I can unlock the taskbar in that way, and resize the taskbar to my hearts desire, I cannot move or resize the toolbars. They seem to still be locked.
Any ideas? |

I know you're making a joke, but I know this isn't how it's supposed to work, since it used to work that way on that machine - I'd unlock the taskbar, and I could see the "bars" at the edge of each toolbar which would allow me to resize and move 'em.
Heck, I can see those when I do the "unlock taskbar" on the wife's machine (also running Win XP), and I can resize the bars. I just cannot do it on my main machine anymore. |

yeah... that's weird... I think there may be a restriction setting in the registry or some such nonsense... but I don't know for sure... just a guess. |

Just a thought. Is this a Pre SP/3 or After SP/3 problem? |

Good point - it seems to be a post SP3 problem, since I have SP3 on my machine, and I don't recall upgrading it THAT recently.
Does that help? Is it possible (or for that matter is it a good idea to try) to uninstall SP3? |

Well, for what it's worth, I was able to uninstall SP3 and rollback to SP2, and I'm still having the taskbar issue.
Any other ideas/suggestions? To be honest, I'm starting to approach being desperate enough to just reinstall Windows XP from scratch as I know THAT will fix the problem... But it'll also mean a few days (or more) of downtime as I reinstall everything. |
