Well got Ubuntu 7.1 to work Acer 5520 laptop there was a way to trick the install bye doing update through Live CD after install this would cause guess necessary drivers to upgrade to the install.... that is my guess.....

Everyone on the Ubuntu Forum said they could not get Ubuntu 7.10 to load to this laptop.....

NOW my problem is the Administrator account will not run the account I set up chris with password 12345 keeps giving error changes this admin account about 6 times....

Anyway to get around this I have to use Ubuntu and password ubuntu just to get on the computer... This just a regular user I guess....

Is there a way to get around this password....

Remember not that good with linux so be specific with directions....

later....

help...

This sucks Sad

I'm not sure what this means, could you explain it again? What do you mean by "admin account will not run the account" and what error is it giving?

Can you log in via the ubuntu user and create a new user? Delete the old one and see what happens.

This is not a power user account or one given any privileges .....

administrator = root or administrator = admin

ubuntu = guest account....

There is no root/admin account on Ubuntu. If you can't add users using sudo with the ubuntu account, then try chrooting in via a live cd:

Code: Select all
sudo mount /dev/drive_name (eg hda1) /media/ubuntu
sudo chroot /media/ubuntu
sudo -s
useradd -G admin yourusername

Are you logging in through a live cd to do that?

If your hard drive is /dev/hda1 then you want to do:

Code: Select all

sudo mount /dev/hda1 /media/ubuntu
sudo chroot /media/ubuntu
sudo -s
useradd -G admin A_New_Username

The ubuntu user already exists because it is the one you said you already have on your system - I am trying to create a new account with privileges for you so that you can use it. So type whatever username you want to create. If the username ubuntu has sudo privileges, then you can forget the chroot step.

Just open up a terminal and type:

Code: Select all
sudo -s
useradd -G admin yooeinstein (or whatever you want your username to be)

You don't need to chroot if you're not using a Live CD.

But if ubuntu is not in /etc/sudoers then your best bet is to boot from a Live CD and follow the instructions.
