Looks like it could happen in the not-too-distant future:

Quote:There have been rumors since last year that Valve may be serious about porting Source games to Linux after Valve Software began seeking a senior software engineer with the responsibility of porting Windows-based games to the Linux platform. Valve Software has yet to officially announce Linux clients for any of its software, but at Phoronix we have received information confirming that Valve is indeed porting its very popular Source engine to the Linux platform. |

Thanks for the post Jaymac.
I hope the Phoronix article about the possible port of Valve's Source game engine and catalog of terrific Half-Life & derivative games to linux is true.
I would be willing to shell out some $$ to Valve if they do make HL2 and Orange Box available for Linux.
In the meantime I'll keep playing iD software's Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (excellent!), Doom3, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein on my dual-boot PC (XP & PCLinuxOS2007).
BTW: Phoronix recently noted that iD Software has announced it is hiring & beginning work on Doom4. I hope iD continues their linux support to D4. |

Yeah, I'm not the greatest fan of Steam, but if I can play the odd game of Counter Strike: Source again without having to run it in Wine I will be quite happy |
