Can anyone give me recommendations for one of these? I've had a Linksys wireless b router for 6 years that has been absolutely flawless.
I've read some customer comments on a few out there and they seem to be all over the map.
It would need to be compatible with other specs because I have a new Macbook Pro(802.11n), an Apple TV, an old macbook (802.11b) and an old Dell (802.11b). I will also need at least 4 wired ports.
I'd also like to be able to schedule when the wireless is active (ie. I would like it to disable wireless when I am at work and at night), but I need the wired ports to stay active 24-7 since I have a home server. |

I'd advise against getting a draft N router until it's been finalized. From what I've seen / read the N routers aren't very good at working with various brands of N spec'd stuff. ie a Linksys draft-N router is best with linksys wireless adapters with the draft N spec. So if you try and combine say that Linksys draft N router with a belkin draft N adapter it may not be so happy.
For now I'd go from your B router to a G. |

Well thanks for your input.
I'm not really sure what to think though. I know that the N spec is not official yet, but i've heard that it is 99% a sure thing. Plus I wouldn't think that a company like Apple would put N cards in their computers if it was not a for sure thing.
Anywhoo...you may have a point that the N routers are not perfected yet. I'm not sure who makes the wireless cards that go in a Macbook Pro. I might just hold off a bit and see if things get better. |

I have the airport extreme router and like it very much. They fixed several issues in the recent firmware updates that make it a much better product then when it was first released. I can now do time machine backups to the external USB disk. However it doesn't have Qos which is something if I had to do over I would look for in a router. I give it a 10/10 for function/reliability, 7.5/10 for features. |

I recently picked up a Linksys WRT600N, but haven't been able to put it into full production yet since the DD-WRT Firmware I use isn't 100% ready for this router yet (I can't use it as a wireless client to another router)...but so far I love it.
IIRC, it also supports scheduling of the radio as well...but I'm not sure if this was with the Linksys firmware or the DD-WRT firmware...I'll check this out when I get home. |

Is that right? Linksys says it is. My dad has one, and he maintains that his laptop and desktop NICs negotiate at 1Gbps. |
