Alrighty, i3lackmagik132, if you want to be a reseller, you need to learn a little about how sales work.

If you make your pitch to someone, and they respond with criticism of your product, you can try and fix the problems they had, or drop it. If they don't like your product, arguing with them about id is just going to make them not like you, and your product.

Simply put, if changes were made, and suddenly your service meets their requirments, they may have purchased it from you, had you not argued about it so much.

The customer is always right. Ideally what you should have done, was taken the criticism's, and looked to see if you could improve your service somehow based on these.

Ah well, live and learn.

Hey thanks hummer, probably first post I won't get angry about Wink I've been tryin to work on it latley, and trying to learn c++ c delphi and ircd coding in 2 years Confused If I can and work on this project for djplasma...i'll be 15 and I can make a lot of money off of it.

Sometimes... I really mean only sometimes ( Sticking out Tongue ) I miss hosting my own. At least when there was a problem I was within reach to slap/strangle.

My current hosting provider is beginning to fail me, and the latest lot of responses I've been getting on "site down" tickets has me looking elsewhere.

Their tech support is telling me that since the "server responds to pings" and that their global tracert service reports no issues, so I should contact my ISP and that the server is running fine.

oh... ok. Rolling Eyes

So I'm on the search for a new host. I've got a dozen or so sites I'm responsible for. I've been doing shared since olivejar went down, and that's just not cutting it for me... at least not with my current host. 100% network uptime is for shit if the services on the server keep dying/stalling/restarting.

Looking at my current expense for hosting, it looks like for $200-$300 more a year I can get a decent managed or dedicated server from some of the big boys (theplanet, rackspace, serverbeach,) and even some of the hosts I'm skeptic of like godaddy or 1&1.

Shared hosting is fine too, but i cannot tolerate my clients or I not being able to access our sites or mail sometimes several times a day for 10s of minutes at a crack. Some days there is combined downtime of 2-3 hours consisting of 5 minutes of time outs every 30 minutes during the day.

I don't hit LBD everyday like i used too... LunarPages still doing a good job? Any other suggestions from those with current and personal experiences?

between godaddy and 1&1... godaddy seems to have better support. 1&1 seems to have the same "we get signal" must be ok type support from the stories I've read.

I wouldn't go with rackspace we just pulled out of there because we were having too much down time on our server. It was their hardware and it was so old it kept having hardware failures.

I used to use HostGator until I setup my own server. I highly recommend their reseller packages. I experienced very little downtime and their customer support was stellar. I almost hated to leave them.

If you decide to use them, feel free to use my affiliate link.

I've been with 1and1 for awhile now, not sure exactly how long... but it was within a month of you losing your stuff Olive. At least a year if not more I think. I have never had my site go down unexpectedly.

The only time I was ever not able to access it, I was sent notices and even called a week in advance to let me know they were moving facilities and I would have about 15 minutes of downtime at like 2am on a Sunday. I host my WoW guild's website/forums so it's in use enough that if it was going down I'd hear about it from somebody. And I'm on the site near constantly during the day.

I've only ever had to submit a support ticket with them one time and it was related to a database issue, converting my database from MySQL 4 to 5. I had a response within a few hours which I thought was reasonable, I didn't call in, just dropped a ticket through email.

This thread has it all; useful feedback and links to examples of immense chronic stupidity.

As for website recommendations (assuming anyone is looking), personally I'd just do it myself, but that's just me. I'm masochistic like that

We run our work site on rackspace. Performance blows. They won't admit that they suck. I show them the tracert. They blame it on NTT or other pipes that they rely upon. Phooee.

I run my personal domains on GoDaddy. Never a performance problem. Much cheaper. Slymer is right that the support is fair to good, too.

Hey,

I use wbws.net for my reseller account, and to say they have great uptime would be an understatement.

http://www.siteuptime.com/statistics.php?Id=64794&&UserId=81151

is the stats for one of my hosts.

If you talk to them and let them know how your looking for, and what deals you found elsewhere, they can normally get you a really nice discount.. ( im getting double the stats lsited on the $25 reseller account... for $25 ).

Ideally though I won't be needing support from where ever I turn.

HostGator is served by ThePlanet. If I go dedicated, which I think I will, I'd be better off just going right to the source.

A lot of my clients have done that and seem quite happy as well. Are you a shared account or managed/dedicated?

Been there, done that. Lost my shirt and still making payments on the scrap metal sitting in my garage.

I loved hosting my own... but that was when I had 12 hours a day to dedicate to it. I just don't have the time for that anymore (nor the patience, money, hair, and sleep.)

Plus, unless you start investing globs of money, you just don't get that security blanket that real data centers offer (redundancy, generators, and while I did offer 24-7 support... sleep is kind of nice now and again.)

There aren't little throw away sites where if it's down for a few hours... oh well. They are corporate clients I'm contractually obliged to maintain.
