$10 for a low res picture, $20 for a medium, and $40 for a high res? Its just expensive. I wouldn't have a problem paying $10 for a high res at all, and its not like I'm even getting a print of it, I just get it emailed to me. Oh, and if you want the high res on a cd its $80.
Every other person I know that races says the photographers that come to the track for them only charge like $10 for a high res digital copy. |

Why is it a scam? It's what the guy does for a living.
If you don't want to pay for his services, take a picture yourself. |

Don't you think he would be more successful and make more money by selling more pictures if he charged less? |

Haggle with him if you think it's too high. |

the merchandise is worth what the market will pay. If he is charging those prices then either people are willingly paying that much or else you won't be seeing him around much longer (in which case you can happily buy the cheaper print that you don't like from the photographer who isn't good enough to take a decent pic of your car but is willing to sell you a crappy pic for a lowball price). |

You know you can shoot the same angle in a parking lot.
That's why they make digital cameras...delete the ones you don't like... |

Not necessarily. His market is not your standard economic model of supply and demand. He has to rely on your illogical, emotional attachment to an inanimate object (your car).
I could not guess what would make him more successful without knowing how successful he already is.
I counted 64 pics (from, what, 3 different angles?) for that event. He has several years' worth of archives, so he may have sold a few.
If he makes a name for himself, his copyrighted images could earn far more, exponentially, over time. But he probably does it because he loves to do it. |
