my car doesn't have a high mount brake lamp... or rather didn't have one stock. It does have one now. I took the head off of an old Nintendo R.O.B. and put some killer LEDs in it. Here's the end result.

What does the poster in your rear window say?

the LED's look okay by the way. Is it legal to do that? I thought you had to have specific approved materials to make a brake light. Or that might just be here. Just wondering.

Most of the laws I've seen here say you need to have the brakelights meaning DOT standards in order to sell them.

but I doubt those are in violation, unless they are more then 20w incandescent equivlent. since they don't to be any brighter then the stock brake lamps, I don't think there will be a problem.

Ziggy cartoon... says "Warning Honking is futile"

as for legal... only color and intensity are outlined in the TXDOT laws. Intesity is measured at a distance too, so it's all legal in that regard. Plus, there's no actual laws for high mount brake lights in Texas, only the factory stop lamps.

Good use for an old toy. I wonder how many people will notice?

not many I'm sure... most people don't have a clue... but they'll notice that the LEDs are bloody bright! Very Happy
