Doctors have thrown in the towel Sad her kidneys are giving out so they can't relieve the lungs or the heart Sad she's getting out and we will probably set her up with hospis

Use it wisely.

Hospice is a ... wonderful thing. It helps make it all bearable, for everyone.

SD, I echo ThunderDawg. Hospice came in for the last 3 weeks of Ed's Dad's life and it was a great source of comfort. I didn't read the booklet they gave me before he died and was sorry later because I would have understood the process much better. As one is dying, they are so preoccupied with that fact in their head, it doesn't leave a lot of psychic energy for them to respond with the caring and words they may have always done before. With my husband, the cancer had also gone to his head, which made his conversations puzzling and rather challenging to understand at the end.

We had a meeting last night with the hospice people and set that up. Mom was in good spirits made a remark about me being short and fat Shocked the humility of it all in good humor and classic mom. She was in good form.

She sounds like a wonderful women who is choosing to take things in stride and with humor rather than whine her way out. Her son raised a good mother. ; )
