those are cheap..thought m/b's went for more.

I think I'll look for something in the Intel line for my delusional plans... doesn't need onboard video either. I was hoping to make it able to play some of the latest games. (TomsHardware had some good video card reviews in the sub $200 range)

Radeon HD3850 is a good choice for a sub-$200 mid-range gaming card. For increasing price and performance, you can go up to Radeon H3870 and then to GeForce 8800GT and GeForce 8800GTS 512MB. I wouldn't bother with any other cards at this time.

Hmm with the Asus Board, I'm up to Grand Total: $694.36 to build a system...that's me already having 4GB's of ram and a 320GB HD to toss in...

where's my economic stimulus!

LIAN LI PC-A05B Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - $89.99
ASUS M2A-VM AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $64.99
ASUS EAH3850/G/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail $199.99
COOLER MASTER Real Power Pro 550 RS-550-ACAA-A1 ATX12V / EPS12V 550W Power Supply - Retail $99.99
AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Windsor 3.0GHz Socket AM2 125W Dual-Core Processor Model ADX6000CZBOX - Retail $159.99
ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED 110mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler - Retail $59.99

maybe I should back off on the CPU a bit... and I know the video cards should see a price drop tomorrow.

I just bought a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition Brisbane core 65watts for $95 with free shipping.

It's supposed to be a good over clocker. I have to wait till Friday and the UPS truck to verify it though.

That's a decent case. The PSU is so-so. Consider the Antec NSK4480 as a cheaper alternative. It comes with an earthwatts (made by SeaSonic) PSU.

How about the Black Edition processor and a less expensive cooler?

I like this one. You might also like the Gigabyte GA-MA69GM-S2H.

This Sapphire model is $30 less:

For as much as ASUS wants for the HD3850, you could get an HD3870, instead:

What are your thoughts on the
OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS ATX12V / EPS12V 600W Power Supply
Item #: N82E16817341010 - $89

I'd picked the other PS based on TomsHardware readings.

I really like the LianLi case look over the Antec one. Aesthetics are important. I currently have a LianLi aluminum case and likes it Smile

The StealthXStream is reported to be an excellent power supply. I have not purchased OCZ branded components in a very long time, but I do not believe that you would be disappointed by that unit.

Here are a couple of cheaper alternatives:
Antec earthwatts EA500:

Silverstone ST40EF:

If you do consider Intel, you might think about:

I'll decide from the options I currently have and probably order up next week. Adding more just confuzzles the selection process Razz
