|
Okay, this is the third major snowstorm we've had in the past week.
http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=7827259
Last Wednesday was so bad I couldn't get out of my driveway and had to call in to work because of it.
Friday we got another storm that kept relatives from coming to visit (we didn't want them to risk their lives to drive 2 hours in white-out conditions).
Man, this is getting VERY old. |

Let me just say that the drive home yesterday was, um, interesting... (and by interesting, I mean that in the context of the old curse "may your life be interesting"...)
The drive that usually takes 20-30 minutes took over an hour and a half... And that was shorter than it could have been, since I used my knowledge of the side-streets around here to avoid most of the jam-ups.
I tell ya, when you're used to taking freeway home every day (at 75+ mph), and then you find that you can't (or don't dare) go faster than 25-30 mph due to slippery roads and white-out conditions, it makes the drive go a LOT longer.
At least I wasn't one of the unfortunate people that wound up in the ditch. I tell you, I was surprised this morning on the drive in to see 1) how many cars were STILL in the ditch (either from yesterday or from this morning already), and 2) how many railings along the freeway were dented/bashed-in that were in perfect condition when I drove in yesterday morning. |

Hey I'm happy with the snow. Work closed down yesterday since the city was so unprepared for it that you couldn't actually get to the building, and I work in the middle of downtown.
Yay for snowdays. |

I don't even want to hear it - my work simply doesn't close for snow. Not that they couldn't, but in the 6 years that I've been here, the only day they were closed at all was when someone slid on the ice and snow and took out the power lines that supply electricity to the whole complex.

Pics? What do you wanna see? If you mean the bent guardrails on the freeway, sorry, I'm not going to stop and take a picture, for fear of getting smooshed in the process. |

Agreed, I prefer the snow, It brings warmer weather around here. Plus, I am right across the street from work, so I can walk. If it gets too bad to walk, I can telecommute. |

I gotta tell ya, this weather is insane... We keep going back and forth from snowstorm to 40+ degree weather where much of it melts, and then back to cold/snowstorm so all the slush freezes solid...
We've been through that cycle at least 3 times in the last two weeks, and we're in the middle of another (everything is melting now, but is expected to freeze tomorrow night or saturday - lovely).
In fact, it's gotten so bad that now they're announcing a "flood watch", in case it stays warm and keeps melting, we'll have all kinds of water problems around town...
Sounds like a damned-if-you-do-damned-if-you-don't situation. If it gets cold, it freezes and driving gets treacherous. If it doesn't get cold, the snow melts and we have floods. Just great. |

It's the same deal here, 70 degrees one day, 13 inches of snow the next. I HATE IT!!!
Last Thursday my 14 minute commute home from work took me well over 2 hours. And the idiots here do not know how to drive at all. DHUR DHUR DHUR, lets go 50mph in a white out! Lets ride the persons bumper in front of us when car's are spinning out all over the highway! |

Boy am I glad I Don't live in NW Ohio anymore.
Give me South Texas anytime. It's 80 and sunny out.
Think I'll go out by the pool and get some tan. |

I grew up down there (Raymondville though) and except for the people, it's a nice place
it's kinda scary to walk into a walmart and not see anyone with a smile. |
