Hmm..I should even update here...
The Party Van has had some work done. Replaced the front sway bar bushings. Replaced all 4 shocks. The stock shocks that were on it had long ago given up working. (they easily compressed by hand, some just fell back in, and didn't push back out.)
The rear drums were fun. Replaced the wheel cylinders, got a drum kit (all new springs to hold the shoes on) put on new shoes. The passenger wheel cylinder exploded when first attempting to bleed brakes, so, had to re-do that one after getting another new (replacement) one. What fun.
Haven't driven it a lot, just down the driveway and around some corners. It handles much better and the brakes work.
Also, installed the new heater core and secured it in place. Haven't re-assembled the blower over it.
Did learn that on a 1987 Ford van, there's a roll over switch on the passenger side in front of the blower that cuts the fuel pumps. So...the van didn't start for awhile as I didn't know that until early last week. Plugged that switch back in and it runs like a champ.
Things left to do...change the valve cover gaskets, pressure wash the grim off the engine, put the blower back on the AC/Heater, re-attach the passenger seat, drop the front tank and figure out why the sending unit isn't working.
All in all..it goes well. Probably will have to park it for a while as a business trip will interrupt any work.
Party van! |

Most fords have those intertia switches. Never had any trouble with it in my ranger, but when I had a Taurus it would think that I'd been in an accident any time that I slowed down after having been at highway speeds (such as at toll booths or gas stations) and a couple of times while I was driving at highway speeds.
It's tough to drive when your engine suddenly cuts off, especially when its the first time it happens to you and you don't know about the switch.
The switch was in the trunk, so any time that I needed to travel I had to pack the trunk in such a way that I could get at the switch easily (which was tough any time I had my bike on the back of the car) and always had t have plenty to read, since it usually took about an hour or two before I could push the button and not have it immediately blow again when I started the engine.
Wasn't a huge fan. |
