they just need to give up on the search engine idea, google has it, and will keep it.. it would be about like someone trying to make an operating system that was cheaper and better than windows.. wait.. nm.. bad example hehe..

And ironically, their own search engine sucks so bad, they have to buy another sucky one. Mediocresoft. |

so, when your search engine sucks to begin with, and you buy another search engine that sucks... does the enormous sucktitude of them together somehow make it better? |

actually they need to buy them soon because the enormity of the sucktitude is pulled them together weather the companies want them to or not. If yahoo doesn't get bought out by microsoft, They will just kinda fall into them and not be able to escape. like a pair of black holes. |

No this goes to show how desperate microsoft is to diversify them selfs and get new revenue streams open.
The end is nigh for the desktop computer as it was. The world is headed towards software as a service (with out really understanding why that is a bad idea.) And when everything is web based microsoft wants to have a presence there. They are seeing things like the G-PC at walmart selling out, and the EEE pc from asus not staying on the shelves. These are computers that have no chance of running windows vista, and less chance of running it well. But people are buying them up like mad with linux on them, because there is a web browser, and so many people realize that is all they actually use any more.
Right now I have 3 aplications open on my desktop, X-chat, Firefox, and XFE (file browser) (a few terms also, but none fo them are doing anything)
There are already web based IRC chat clients. So no need to worry about X-chat. XFE is used for saving files and viewing them later, like picassa is for pictures, or like google docs is for google docs, or like google videos is for videos. Most people have already gone web based for their email... how long until people dump their pictures right on to the web and don't store them locally? how many regular "users" do you know that would not have a major issue operating off less then 4Gb's of memory on their computer because everything they want is web based?
the only thing that is keeping this all from happening is bandwidth, how much you can get, and where you can get it. and it is very possible that the opened up wireless spectrum will resolve those issues... people won't need a power hungry laptop and more... if you used an EEE pc to make a full sized laptop, you've get 6+ hours of battery life.... and that is something no one would complain about, especailly when wimax covers the entire country... Heck maybe some day those same digital pictues I mentioned above won't even be stored on digital cameras, they'll just dump wirelessly up to a web server where they'll be marked as private until you categorize them otherwise. |
