Ok the local options for VOIP are well.....non-existant, and I figure maybe it's time to take the cell phone plunge. So after looking over Bell, Rogers, and Telus's site and getting only a migraine, I've decided to ask folks that might know more.

I'm after only three things:

Unliminted incoming calls. Not just local, but everything.
Voicemail. Perferably havign access to check voicemail by either email, online or being able to call a number from another phone to access it.
Call display. Number and if available name.

that's it. And Shockingly something that I cannot find. If you know of something that fits these qualities, please let me know. THanks.

move to the states... everyone + dog has that as the bare minimum (cept the online voicemail stuff... usually it's just from the cell phone or you can call your own number from any phone and press * to access your voicemail)

Unless you have unlimited minutes for everything, you won't get unlimited incoming in the US. At least, not on any plan I've seen.

I'm only familiar with Telus and Rogers, but I think the unlimited incoming will be the problem.

Telus has voicemail that you can access from any phone (although you can only store three messages unless you pay to upgrade). Telus also does call display - I think. I don't pay for it, so it doesn't work on my phone.

Talk to some local folks about service area. Rogers was brutal around here when we first moved here. It may be better now, but I don't know, we both use Telus now.

NOt in North America it seems.

Thanks folks, sounds like I'll just have to wait for Bell to install my landline.....whenever that will be.

but I can have some nutjob call my phone 24/7 without leaving any messages and never have any minutes used up if I don't answer the call. I thought that's what he meant cause I remember back in the analog days that you would get charged for incoming calls even if you didn't answer it (even if your phone was off). and since he wasn't asking for unlimited minutes specifically, I thought he meant not being charged for the rings even if you don't pick up.

Just what I was thinking. What the hell kind of service limits incoming calls?

Apparently North American ones. I should play the lottery Wednesday. 25 mil would be a start to getting a useful telecom started.
