Post Posted: Fri Dec 28, 2007 5:40 pm   Post subject: Accessing linux drive from windows... Reply with quote Back to top

So as you guys may have read, my server gave up the ghost

I'm going to pop at least one new hard drive in it and re-format

but I'd like to try and scrape some data from the old drives before I really screw things up.

Anyone have any clue how I can manage to access those drives and pull stuff off them?!?!?

I do have an external drive enclosure I can use, but I'm not sure if windows will even recognize the file system..

any help would be appreciated

-Tyme

Does services for unix have filesystem support?

The only Linux/Windows connecting I do is a Widows box to a Linux server. I've never used the two together on the same system.

There is a utility that mounts an EXT2 file system read write on Windows. I used it a while back at work with success.

helix live cd (forensics cd... can access damn near anything)

though you will need access to another drive to dump stuff to.

Helix is a customized distribution of the Knoppix Live Linux CD. Helix is more than just a bootable live CD. You can still boot into a customized Linux environment that includes customized linux kernels, excellent hardware detection and many applications dedicated to Incident Response and Forensics.

Helix has been modified very carefully to NOT touch the host computer in any way and it is forensically sound. Helix wil not auto mount swap space, or auto mount any attached devices. Helix also has a special Windows autorun side for Incident Response and Forensics.
