Mine Doggie chased it in there, where it stayed, motionless, for almost a half hour.

I have not seen this one previously. I believe it is one of George and Gracie's offspring. I think I'll call him Ziggie Marley.

Post Posted: Sat Dec 08, 2007 3:42 pm   Post subject: Squirrel Reply with quote Back to top

My neighbor's cat was stalking squirrels late on this cloudy and gray afternoon.

The squirrels complained loudly. Using spot exposure had this squirrel nicely exposed even though I was shooting up into the light sky.

What I believe is cool about this photo of a female squirrel is the exposure: 1/25s at 300mm (480mm equivalent), hand-held. Cool

Observations: The autofocus "clack" distracts the wildlife. The image stabilization rattle also distracts me slightly. The new lens is quite noticeably noisier than my other two. Image stabilization allowed me to take a picture of a male squirrel on the ground just as he bobbed his head. At 1/25s, the grass is very sharp, but the squirrel's head is a smooth blur. The diagonal patterns in the blurred backgrounds for long exposures are a bit odd. I wonder if this is the direction that I moved the camera when I pressed the shutter button and the pattern is an artifact of the IS.

This squirrel may be pregnant, too:

This small fellow chirped loudly enough that I finally spotted him amongst the pine needles.

I tried taking a picture of the ducks struggling to get upstream. This was when there was still some upstream to get...

The stream behind our house usually gets a max of about 2 feet of ice from the far bank. The ducks like playing on it and jumping into the water. This morning, between the snow and the 5 degree temperatures and the wind, there was only about 2 feet of open water at its narrowest.

I was trying to photograph the ducks struggling to get upstream, but between the snow and the fact that I was shooting through a window it didn't come out too well. Shows you what it was like, though.

The snow was kind of like bean bag pellets made of ice coming down. Not quite hail.
