In June I got a used Panasonic Toughbook on eBay. Reason being I was looking more for durability than performance, after playing with it all summer, its definately tough!
Anyways, one of the big problems is the lack of a CD/DVD drive. I had always figured on getting an external USB one at some point, but I really don't know what to get... So of course I looked to LBD, as you guys always know whats good and whats crap. I've had good luck with Lite-On drives in my desktop, but haven't a clue as to whats what with external USB drives.

Requirements:
Must read DVD and write at least CD's (DVD writer would be a plus).
Portable/durable enough to be stashed in my laptop bag and moved between home/work/wearever on a regular basis.
Prefererably under $100 (wallet is pretty empty Crying or Very sad ) but willing to spend more for a quality product.

I'd really like something that can work under bus power only, at least for reading. I'm not sure how much burning I will be doing, but frequently could go for reading a CD or DVD and one less cord is always good. Could always plug in the power cord for burning or extended use.

Thanks in advance Wink

I picked up an LG GSA-E40L for about $50 at Best Buy a couple of months ago. It has worked flawlessly with several different PCs.

Does it work on just bus power? or needs to be plugged in all the time?

Anyone else with opinions? Sad

I don't think there are any external CD/DVD drives that will work off of USB power. Sad Smile

Your Google-Fu is weak.

And Ebay is your friend...

What can't be solved with the proper amount of RDX?
