Granted, this put the label on the READ side (aka 'bottom') of the disc, but it would work with any media, although some media showed up better than others. It used some sort of plug-in for Nero that somehow would estimate the available free space left over on a disc after the data was written, and then you could design the label around it. I played with it for a little while, made a few discs, and decided that the results weren't worth the 10 or-so extra minutes screwing around with it.
I suppose if you had batches of CD's to make you could set up a template or something, and the Gee Whiz factor is pretty high, but for casual use it just seems silly to me.
My Yamaha burner had that; I tried it a few times. I never could see any difference on a cd with or without text burned into it... |

Hello,
Just got the new Lightscribe burner, and was wondering if I need special software to actually use the special image burning feature.
Thanks |

The drive should have come with some type of software to be able to burn labels onto the labels side of the disc. And as far as I know the only other requirement for the LightScribe is that you have to use LightScribe CD's so you can burn those labels.
Other than that I'm pretty sure it operates just like any other CD/DVD burner, and you should be able to use any 'ole burner prog to get your data to disc. |
