I've been playing with OpenDNS and it seems to speed up teh IntarW3b search requests in ways that SuperFreakinDuperHighSpeed Internets do not. OpenDNS replaces the DNS settings on your computer or router with a faster, bigger, smarter DNS database. If nothing else, it's nice to finally get a reliable DNS address to hang onto. It's free and simple to use.
Quote:OpenDNS can identify and stop sites trying to phish (steal) your personal information or money. The OpenDNS phishing protection works with all operating systems and browsers, and complements any other security measures already in use, such as a firewall and anti-virus software.
Most DNS servers on the Internet are slow. Your computer uses DNS every time you visit a website or send an email, so you want DNS to be blazing fast. Two things make DNS really fast: a big cache and a good network. We have both.
Not to brag, but OpenDNS caches are really big.
The bigger and better the cache, the fewer steps in the process, and the faster the Internet experience. Making the OpenDNS caches really big is part of how OpenDNS makes the Internet faster.
There is no software to install, so no switching cost and no lock-in. OpenDNS is easy to start using. We're confident you will prefer our service, but it's easy to return to your old settings. |

I've been using it for about a month now on my client machines... so far, no problem. All the clients are DHCP, so I just set this in the dhcpd configuration...

Well, even with the little bit I have been around lately, I have noticed it is Significantly faster than previous. I used to get really annoyed with sites that loaded slowly even though there wasn't much bandwidth transfer. |

I finally got around to setting up OpenDNS on my network and I just found out that the Adult Content Filter blocks LittleWhiteDog. I had to Whitelist it to let it thru. |

So I turn on the Stats feature today and found some odd things.
I immediatley checked to see what domain was getting hit the most. It turned out to be rcw.wc24.wii.com. I found that to be kind of odd considering my WII had not been turned on since I started the stats feature of OpenDNS. We did play alot of WII games earlier this morning.
I basically spent most of my time on the TEchguy forums answering questions and gooling answers.
So has OPenDNS been logging all my domain activity this whole time or is my WII accessing the internet when it is turned off. It barely showed any activity for techguy.org and I spent 2 hours on there just now. |

It does access the internet when turned off. It checks for new mail, etc... |

The stats don't show up right away, I think there on a cron job or something that update over night every so often.
Also, if you have a dynamic IP make sure its still the same. |
