So I was down at one of the posts in swetzingen working on my Golf on Friday when I found one of my best junk finds to date. My buddies and I had just arrived and were looking for a Golf with a good interior so I could strip mine and make it look decent again when Will saw something sitting in the back of the stripyard. It was a sight to behold.
(This isn't it, just a picture for reference)
A 1980 VW Transporter.  It had just been put in the lot the day before, and was in pretty good condition. I went inside and talked to the guys that run the craft shop and managed to talk them into selling it to me for $200. Not too bad. Needs a new valve cover gasket and a lot of TLC, but I'm not complaining. The previous owner had turned it into a camper, this thing even came with a propane stove! Heh.
I'm going tomarrow to get insurance and temp plates for it, I'll take pics then and post them later. |

I'll be able to bring it home no problem, anything over 25 years old doesn't need to be US spec. Already cleared that through vehicle registration and customs.
I'm a bit pissed though, I got my insurance and temp tags this morning, and the damn auto craft shop wasn't open so I couldn't pick it up. They're closed tuesdays so now I have to wait until wednesday to get it. Now I have to pay more money for temp storage as well. Bastards.
I forgot to mention as well that I have the original German title for it too. Probably gonna frame it and keep it in the back... |

no disrespect intended.  ...My uncle has rescued three VW buses and all have suffered similar flash fires internally. You may want to safeguard the title somewhere other than the vehicle.....I would chalk it up to the alt. Dead head use but he/they are "Holy Rollers" and eschew all drug use. ...no crack |

Got it! OMG this thing is awesome. Put the battery back in, topped off the fluids, and it fired right up. I have a slight oil leak to fix, but other than that it's good to go. I'll post pics after I eat and go to the store. |
