if I was able to get Ethernet hookup instead of coax, I'd use my own linksys router and wouldn't have any issues... BUT...

verizon doesn't support linux and my linux box won't stay connected to this thing for more than an hour or 2. the linux box still shows that it's connected to the router. The router however doesn't show it. I can initiate some traffic to the router (pings etc) and it'll show back up on the router's list, but it still can't get through the router. The windows machines don't have this issue. My laptop is a dual boot and has the issue in linux, but not in windows. So I know for a fact it's not my own hardware. The actiontec router on the other hand seems to be the biggest problem. I want my linux box back on-line 24/7 so it can FOLD!

Which router is it? What firmware is the router running? I know that my Linux box will connect and stay connected to all of the Verizon routers.

That version shouldn't have any problem with Linux machines.
Is this a wireless connection?

the linux box is wired... the laptop is wireless... both have the issue... but the windows machines don't. go figure. I wonder if I need a keep-alive script

action techs, are pieces of crap.

Now that that is out of the way, here is what I would do, use the linksys router, put the action tech in pass through mode...

otherwise, try on the linux box, open a shell, and do a "ping google.com" and let it run.
if your connection stays up then you know that a keep alive script would work... if it doesn't then you know that a keep alive script would require something more then ICMP packets

windows is constantly throwing packets at the router, and with a action tech router, I wouldn't be surprised if it kept track of connections off of smb packets that windows is chucking around...

Do you have samba on your linux boxes? might help to map a samba share or two off of them so they spit back some info when windows does it's broadcast calls for SMB master controllers...

pass-through mode... I haven't found a way to do that... if I could do that to where it passes the wan address to the next router I would in a heartbeat and plug everything into the linksys. dern MoCA! Why couldn't they just use cat5 instead of coax?!

found out how to make it into a bridge...

http://www.broadbandreports.com/forum/vzfiber_20.xml

all info there... rather lengthy process, but it worked... and ya gotta be QUICK on the draw to get the coax to drop the ip and not grab a new one.

now just gotta wait for DNS to propogate again... then my stuff will be back on-line all around again.
