Your sys admin / company policy was put in place for a reason. Sorry we are not here to help you circumvent the rules. Very Happy

Slashdot reply: You don't use programs? What, you put the cat-5 in your mouth and try to *taste* the intruders?

I thought the same thing, but in reading those rules I don't specifically see anything he violated. Is what he's doing truly illegal, or just against his companies policy? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmm... I thought it was in the rules somewhere... guess not. Doesn't really matter to me either way... We've always had a policy of sorts about this, even if unwritten. Their policies are there for a reason; if you're going to try and get around them, you won't get our help in doing so. With the amount of IT guys here, why would we want to make it harder for them to do their jobs by handing out workarounds to the methods they employ to keep people from going places they shouldn't be in the first place? Get a nice aluminum baseball bat, an extreamly large rubber band. Place one end of the rubber band around your neck and the other around the bat. Now swing away. That should take care of the issue.

You wont find any help here.

Although it may not be illegal directly, couldn't it be considered theft of services, hacking or etc...since the machine or the internet does not belong to the user in question.

Some places of work recognize that people surf and it doesn't affect their work. Others have more draconian ideas.

We would not be acting responsibly (and the site would open itself up to a number of complaints) if we spoke about breaking particular pieces of software. We're not about hacking here. If you need to have access to a site, you would need to clear it with the IT staff, who are probably going on orders from someone else.

That said, any proxy outside of your site would allow access, probably. That's what they are there for, and some of these sorts of nanny programs don't see proxies. It all comes down to how it is implemented.

What is the policy at work?

Pizza and beer.

Buy copious quantities of both, and then give them to your company's IT staff.

What if he sends us the pizza and beer, then we can show him how to do it.
