Greetings all,

I am absolutely loving my Mac. I wish I switched long ago.

One of my favorite Windows program is called SecondCopy (http://www.centered.com/), a backup program that lets me create at automated backup of whatever files I wish to whatever location I wish. I used it to backup my files to an external location I I chose "exact copy" so that old files on the external drive would be deleted.

Is there a Mac analog to this kind of program I can use? I want to use it to back up the files on my Mac to a network share.

Speaking of Lacie, I hear a lot of negative about these drives. How are they really?

I am looking at getting one, but I am not sure.

I've had LaCie drives. Other than that they tend to be more expensive than they should, generally they've been okay. Mind you I haven't bought a LaCie in years (they're expensive).

But the backup software is free. And I've been using it to back up to my second drive on the G5.

One of my job functions is to migrate data centers across geographical regions. One of the many tools I use are a few dozen Lacie drives. I haven't had one fail yet, even though a pair of them were dropped down a flight of stairs and cracked open.

I now had a D2 drive I'm using to backup my MBP. It is pretty dang fast with Firewire 800 and I haven't had a problem since purchasing it in November '06. I believe Lacie is going to release a new drive with External SATA. I will definitely be getting one of those to use with Leopard and Time Machine. 3Gbps of bandwidth is just too hella fast to ignore Smile

Backups? We don't need no stinkin' backups!

/me lives on the wild side. Or stupid side. Very Happy

I burn cd's of my photos once in awhile. Drag some stuff to the server once in awhile, drag other stuff to the external drive. I'm a very random backing-up kind of person. Hopefully my computer only randomly crashes, eh? Wink

farmboy uses chronosync for day to day backups of files and folders.

He uses superduper for drive duplicating.
