I was wondering whether someone could offer some advice. I am going to upgrade my computer soon and will be probably buy a duron chip. If a Duron 700 can be overclocked to run at 950 would u recommend buying a Duron 700 and overclocking it or simply buying a Duron 900?
Also what speed can a Duron 900 usually be overclcoked to?
Thanks in advance

Vic_Vegas...

Need more specs on your setup...MB, CPU cooler, RAM... BTW, how much were you looking to spend? I've got my Duron 900@990 on an ECS K7S5A board with 128MB DDR. That's as high as it could go on that MB.

I`ll be buying a new motherboard when i decide on the chip along with new cooler. Basically i am wondering what a Duron 700 can usually be overclocked to compared to a 900.
I am on a very tight budget as u may have noticed.

Not sure. Depends on the core itself. I'd say the 900MHz could hit 1GHz w/o a hassle. I can't say how much further you could get, but if possible try to set the RAM to 133. I'm not sure if this works with SiS chipsets, I do know it works for Via's (being the Via-whore I am)
800MHz Duron's are supposed to be pretty good about hitting 1GHz. I just got a new board so I haven't run it up all the way, but I was hitting 1016MHz tops with mine. I might be able to go higher but I'm not sure.

Hey,

I have a duron 900 running as a seti system, if you are not worried about upgradability i would go with an Asus A7V and the Duron 900 because the duron 700 is only about 14 dollars less (where i can find them). this is a setup i have running i have a normal crome orb and the CPU is runnning at 1.2gh no problems at all.

This setup was great for me and i hope i have helped if you have any other question please ask.
