There are a lot of Gears players here and I mentioned it to Lake and he agreed, that the game should have been a nit longer. Don't get me wrong I love the game and it is one of my all time favorites. I am kind of curious if maybe that is all that would fit on the disc. One of the worries I had about the 360 using a standard DVD drive for games is that it would run out of room on the disc whereas the PS3 using Bluray would not have that issue. What do you guys think.
By the way here is a link to some rumors about a Christmas Eve bonus to Gears. http://planetgearsofwar.gamespy.com/fullstory.php?id=109066 |

Well the Xbox got the HD-DVD add-on and games will eventually take advantage of it in the near future.
But really, unless there are a shit load of cinematics in the game, if a game run out of 8GB of data(X360 is using double-layer DVDs), there's something wrong with that game. Sony put a BluRay drive in there to push the BluRay Movies format, not games. You can cram up to 50GB on a BluRay disk... i don't see any games using that much space in the near future. Maybe in 20 years. |

Software makers are known for their bloat ware, but I am not sure about games. What if advertisers were to use that extra space for in-game advertising of sorts? The problem about having all that extra space is that software designers will find some way to use it.
Of course, Sony could force games designers to use Blu-Ray if they wish to have licensing approval - they have done silly stuff in the past you know. |
