|
Greetings,
Recall my issues with an LSI Logic MegaRAID 150 card (errasure of my data and conversion to RAID 0 after a "rebuild" of a RAID 5 volume post single drive failure).
My beloved Astronomy Online website used an LSI Logic MegaRAID 300-8X RAID card and I have 6 200GB Seagate drive in a RAID 10. Two days ago, one of the drives failed (after being on continuously for 2 years). I purchased a replacement drive and received it today (same brand and capacity). I power down the server, removed the bad drive and replaced it with the new one. I reboot and I get "drive configuration errors" and I should choose the config from the drives or NVRAM (they are both the same). When I enter the cards BIOS, there are no options to rebuild and it shows the drive is online. I do have auto rebuild enabled.
When I reboot after I see this, Windows won't load. I'm thinking corrupted boot, so I remove the drive (no drive attached the the port that reported the failed drive) and rebooted again - still no Windows...
On a whim, I replace the failed drive and Windows booted normally - and the RAID software still reports this drive as "disabled" and "failed."
What am I missing here??? |

First, BACK UP YOUR DATA.
Does the card support hot-swap?
If it does BACKUP YOUR DATA and hot-swap.
Check the RAID software does it allow you to software replace the drive?
If so, BACKUP YOUR DATA and try that option.
Some software will let you click the failed drive, power it down, swap in the new one and then rebuild.
I'm not familier with that particular card, but if non of those sugestions help, and no one else here is familer I'll read up on it.
O yeah, did I mention BACKUP YOUR DATA.
Not to beat a dead horse but so man people ignore that step. |
