I got an email saying I have a PM but I check my box and I don't have any new PM's.

Is there a Phantom sending me Messages?

it's possible you were sent the PM - then the person changed their mind and deleted it from their outbox... which deletes it from you.

it wasn't me.

That is indeed a valid scenario. You get an email when someone hits the send button. However the delivery doesn't happen until you log in and actually go get your private messages. If they delete out of their outbox before you log in and go to PMs, you don't get the message.
