Alright folks. I'd like to start this post with a disclaimer : I know jackshit about wireless networking. I have a global vision of it, but that's it.
That said,
- I currently have one computer, no router, internet is plugged directly in the RJ45 jack.
- I'm gonna buy a Nintendo Wii and it support IEEE 802.11 or a USB 2.0 LAN adaptor.
- I will also buy a Playstation 3 and this one got Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T) x 3 (input x 1 + output x 2) and Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g
- I will, also, eventually, buy a small laptop.
So my question is, how the hell am I going to connect all this ?! Wireless is my preference, of course... because my computer is like... *rolls chair to check - rolls back chair to desk* .. 12 meters from my living room where all the consoles will be, so plugging all this with a normal router with 30 meters of wires is a no-no.
Suggestions ? |

I would suggest this:
http://www.netgear.com/Products/RoutersandGateways/SuperGWirelessRouters/WGT624.aspx
Allows up to 4 hard wired devices besides the broadband connection and allows for wifi conectivity.
Configuration is fairly easy and should suite your needs.
I own on and have been pleased with the performance.

I use a Linksys
I have used the others but I prefer the Linksys.
I don't play online games so I can't comment, personally but i have had friends that the wireless didn't work well with the games.
If it was me, and it is possible, I would run a wire to the room with the games and then put a small switch in there so you don't have to run a cable for each game. |

I've had 2 linksys routers in the past and both had given me problem at one point or another.
both game consoles support 802.11b/g standard which is there wifi connection so the wifi part of the router i listed will cover the distance between room without having to run a separate wire for each system but i would recomend hard wiring them concidering that hard wired is more reliable than wireless .............but that is just the nature of the beast |

I can't count the number of linksys routers, both wired and wireless, I have running at customer sites and they never give me any issues.
Wireless still isn't as fast or reliable as wired, least not in the home user products, so if you can run a wire, it would be advantagous. |
