So some benchmarks have shown that the new Intel Conroe CPU is either comparable to or better than the benchmarks for the AMD FX-62 processor...

Tom's Hardware

How many of you AMD users will switch over to Intel if their chips end up being faster, for the same or less money ? What I'm wondering is, will Intel gain market share once they release this chip... What it really boils down to is, how many AMD consumers are buying AMD's simply because they like AMD more than Intel, or because their chips are actually better than Intel's chips ?

I've been a AMD fanboy for a looooooooooooonng time now, but that Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 sure looks purdy. As a matter of fact, if i had the money right now, that's what i'd buy.

There has been a lot of people over at HardOCP and and Xtremesystesytems.com that were hardcore AMD and switching over to Intel core 2 duo. I hopefully will be getting one next week. We are having a lottery and 90 people will be winning one.

Good question. The answer probably is "more than one would think". It sure works the other way around too.

I have no particular brand loyalty, the sole reason I buy AMD is because it has been better value for money. If Intel starts offering cheaper and higher performing chips for the same money, I'll be there like shit off a shiny shovel.

The consumer always wins price wars.

I'd build one for someone that has money to burn - better mobo and memory choices (and Quad core and PCI Express 2) are right around the corner - w00f?

Ditto.

I've gone back and forth between Intel and AMD a number of times in the past and I can do it again.

I do like the look of the Conroe, powerful and cool (relatively).

Just "some"??

In a balanced rig the FX62 loses out to the E6700 in every single test except for a couple synthetics, and of those most are memory related or Sciencemark 3.

Take a $183 1.86ghz E6300 and you can outperform that FX62 or the upcoming FX64 even more so... once you OC that chip to the moon, which is only about 3.3ghz+ Smile I'm personally running one at 3.33ghz only slightly above stock volts, because the RAM gave out at 1ghz first!

I do see many people buying AMD though, infact a surprising number considering the staggering performance of the C2Ds. Not all are people upgrading from Socket A or socket 939 either, some are still sticking it out with AMD... which makes me happy because I don't want AMD going anywhere. It's only because of them Intel finally did things right!

Thats an excellent point. I bet without AMD leading the performance/price comtest for years made Intel really try harder. It is good to see the Netburst technology phasing out.

Edit: Holy smoke! Been over a year since your last post Kougar! Welcome back (from Lurksville Smile ).

Well I didn't want to say "all", because frankly I haven't read every single review out there.

I'm a big fan of AMD, but if it comes down to price/performance I'll go with the best performance for the buck...which for the past few years has been AMD. The only intel machine I have is my new laptop...but thats only because dell doesnt have an AMD solution that I'm aware of.

Heh Akely... my last post is only a little ways down the front page still... but thanks. Wink

Doomhammer, I haven't read all of them either, but after the first ~10 it was hard to not notice AMD couldn't land a hit on the E6700, and the X6800 was in a class all it's own. I'll admit I'm a Core 2 Duo / Core 2 Quadro fanatic, but any computer user should be when they can get a processor that is powerful enough to require a new class above the rest, and still use less power doing it. THe 1.86ghz E6300 is guaranteed to hit a very high OC, it isn't impossible to achive a 100% ghz overclock, nor a 100% FSB overclock either, no mods needed.

Extreme, Dell Introduces Two AMD-Based Desktops http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=4146 These are already on Dell's site available to buy.

My apologies Kougar, I should have specified AMD solutions for laptops as that was my thought process at the moment. But I wasnt aware of them offering AMD solutions for desktops either...so thank you for the update!
