As some may know, the 9800 Pro took a crap in the 2800+. Warranty service is gonna take to long (3 weeks). So in the mean time, Im gonna upgrade the 2600+ box for dvd auth while im waiting (currently running a Radeon 9200) .
As you can tell, Im an ATI fan. So, Lets hear it............$200ish |

how much VGA do you need though ?
I'd be happy with an SIS6326 if it was a desktop
or an S3 Trio
but if you want to game a bit...
how about an Nvidia TNT2 M64
ooooh, wait.
my local computer store still (!!!) has some original 3Dfx 3000 (?) in boxes
with the games in them |

I just bought two new cards.
The first is a ATI 850XT. It is very nice but was a bit pricey.
For Fleas machine I bought a nVidia 6600 GT (128 MB version).
I'm very happy with both of them. I think the nVidia card has a lot more bang-for-the-buck though. FLeas framerates are not that much lower than mine.
The 6600 should fit well inside your budget.
Mind you: so far we've only played Everquest 2 on them.

The GeForce 6600GT is only a lateral move from the Radeon 9800Pro.
$184 GeForce 6800 128MB AGP
$153-40MIR GeForce 6600GT 128MB AGP
I would honestly suggest that it is time for you to upgrade to PCI-Express rather than sinking more money into AGP or Socket-A. |

Pretty much everything in the X800/X850 series for ATI or 6600 or 6800 series for nvidia will do the trick. I have a ASUS 6800GT 256MB and it rocks. Can't play FEAR or Call of Duty 2 at full resolution with all the bell and whistles, but i can still play at MAX setting using a 1024x768 resolution.
BTW, AGP or PCI-E ? I'm guessing AGP... but if you do have PCI-E, the 6800GS is kicking some serious ass for the price you pay for it. |

I just picked up(a week or so ago) the ATI x850 pro for $250 at Fry's electronics. FOr $200 you could get a comparable x800. |
