I was rooting through my stash of crap today and found some old movies on VHS tape which are no good to me on account of having neither television nor VCR with which to watch them.

You can have 'em if you want 'em. All ya gots to do is pay the postage, currently £1.50 (UK only; international postage is more expensive) for one tape (they weigh a bit), with discounts on the postage if you take more tapes. I take PayPal; PM me for details. I believe they're all in good condition and watchable but, due to the aforementioned lack of TV & VCR, can't verify it. All I know is, they worked the last time I watched them (which was probably 1993 or earlier). Oh, and they're all PAL format, not NTSC or SECAM.

One last thing: I've offered these on my local Freecycle list, too. First come, first served.

Here they are:

* Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - Kevin Reynolds' action-comedy showcasing the life of Britain's most notorious mediæval bandit, Robin Hood. Starring Alan Rickman and some other dude who can't act. It's got some cool photography in it, notably the archery bits.

* The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover - Cannibalism might have been frowned upon by Willy Wonka but it's certainly on the menu here in Peter Greenaway's bonkers tale of sex, murder, food and revenge. This film was my introduction to Michael Nyman's music; it's got a stunning soundtrack. Oh, while I remember, it's got Helen Mirren in the buff.

* Platoon - 'Namtastic portrayal of how war drives people loopy.

* House of Games - Lindsay Crouse goes up against Joe Mantegna in David Mamet's tale of treachery, betrayal and confidence tricks.

* Highlander - All together now: ~It's a kind of magic... it's a kind of magiiiiiic...~

* Lethal Weapon - The archetypal black/white buddy movie. All together now: "I'm too old for this shit!"

* Midnight Express - All the sodomy and brutality you could desire, courtesy of Alan Parker's harrowing tale of a young man sentenced to a term inside a Turkish prison. Remember, kids, drug-smuggling is bad.

* Les Miserables - ~At the end of this film you are two hours older~. Or something like that, anyway. This adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic novel stars Anthony Perkins (he of Norman Bates fame) as the barmy Inspector Javert. I've never watched this one; it should be in pristine condition.

* A Breed Apart - Rutger Hauer is unhinged and kills people. Oh, and Kathleen Turner is in it.

* Firestarter - Stephen King's story of Keith Flint's life as the frontman for The Prodigy stars a young Drew Barrymore as the spiky-haired caterwauler. Or something.

* The Princess Bride - All together now: "Haylo. My name iss Ineeego Montoya. You keeled my farther. Preepare to die." Rob Reiner and William Goldman's classic tale of Heroes, Giants, Villains, Wizards and True Love still brings a lump to the throat.

* Rain Man - This tale of redemption and brotherly love stars a rather attractive Valeria Golino and a couple of guys.

* Electric Dreams - Essentially a vehicle for a collection of early 1980's synth-pop from the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Phil Oakey et al, this film tells the story of a guy and his computer both vying for one girl's affections. This also includes the soundtrack on audio cassette.

ahhh HaHaHaHa.

I'll trade you for some 8-Track Tapes I haven't give away, yet. Wink

Alas, I would love all of those titles, but the postage far outweighs their cost-effectiveness. Which is why I can't understand how NetFlix makes money...

They're all gone. The local freecyclers just about ripped my arms off in their enthusiasm to get the vids.
