Call me a troll or whatever, but...
1- Steam is shit.
2- HL² is good though.
Not the best game around, but still one of the top game i've played. Maybe i'm just easily impressed, but i don't care. I liked Ravenholm, i liked the physique of the game, the story, very linear yes, was still a good one. I enjoyed the shit out of that game. Except the ending. Was too easy.
So the game is not perfect, but it's still better than all the other shit around. The only decent FPS games i've played recently(ie : past 6 months) are HL² and Republic Commando. |

Doomhammer wrote:I agree with a lot of what you said. Steam is a pisoff -- as is "decrypting" this game I just paid $50 for.
However, I thought that HL2 was an okay game. The graphics were nothing spectacular, even at 1280x1024 with 4x Anti-Aliasing. But like you, the graphics of the game aren't what make it fun. It is possible to have a really great game that can't run at a resolution higher than 640x480.
But meh, I finished it. However, now I'm starting to get frustrated at CSS... Most of the people who play it are morons. They don't understand the concept of a TEAM BASED GAME. You see, that means that you're supposed to work as a team -- stay in one big ass-kicking group and all that crap.
I have seen bunches of people that cheat -- some h4x are less obvious than others: some people have a "turret hack", where they just spin around at an incredible rate and automatically shoot every time they see the head of an enemy. Some have a speed hack, and only use it to increase their speed a little bit, so as not to get caught. But regaurdless, cheating is pointless. If you can't play without cheating, don't. All you're doing is ruining the game for others that actually want to play fairly.
And the teamkilling bullshit -- don't do that. It's really easy to tell the difference between an accident and just being a moron.
I don't really play any of these games online...except for Unreal with Doomie a few times. But my kid had a lot of the same complaints about not being able to play cause no one was into the team aspect of the game.
Right now he plays on a team called claninabox...Wrath used play there too. It is a pretty tight team thing thay have going. |

Exactly, Bean. Their lack of team tactics ruins the game for someone serious about winning such as myself. |

It says on the back of the case that an Internet Connection is required to play. I don't know why you are being so derisive over that point.
I agree its a pretty unengaging game though, it just seamed to be a string of linear set pieces with a few puzzles thrown in for good measure. I completed it but had no motivation to play through again. |

For two reasons.
Firstly, I shouldn't need a damn' 'Net connection just to install the stupid thing, regardless of how many warnings there might be on the box and how large they might be writ.
And secondly, because I got it mail-order, and the seller (Amazon, of course; bunch of charlatans) made no mention of a 'Net connection being necessary. And it was only after I'd installed the game and found out that I still had to wait a further hour or more while the real product was either downloaded or "decrypted" that I got suspicious and had a look at the back of the box. If the process had been as seamless and unobtrusive as, say, Windows XP's product activation, or that of some other software I've bought, then I wouldn't be feeling so obstreperous about it. I'd be ticked off, certainly (online activation for a goddamned game?), but I'd not be as livid as I am.
The entire package is a profound let-down.
Anyway, I'm shot of it now. I eBayed it last night; Buy It Now for one penny (and only because eBay won't let me list something for a zero price). Someone snapped it up about 20 minutes after I listed it. He's got himself a cheap t-shirt and box in which to keep it. No idea what he'll do with the shiny disc. |

Bummer. You should have just offered it here for a day or two before posting it on ebay...would have saved you ebay fees. Oh well....sorry you didn't like it. I played the demo and loved it, but to each his own. |

You should all quit yer whining. Steam is awesome. I can download awesome games like Codename:Gordon, which has to have the best graphic´s engine ever and the gameplay is just beautiful. if you don´t have adsl...then the terrorists have won. Now go back to your caves...or you shall feel my headshots. |
