Well I got me a Mac Mini... trying to get a handle on all this crazyness... and this is a crazy world you macies live in...

So I started it up, I managed to install firefox and xchat.... then my windows shared printer (via Samba off a linux box... but those are just technicalities..)

Then I installed my mouse drivers, this is where things seems to go horribly wrong, I got them installed and restarted, now I can't get back into Xchat... where is the shortcut to get me back into xchat?

You mounted drive images. Think of it like using ISO Buster to mount an ISO image and extract files.

What you do from there is drag the actual program icon out of there, and onto your desktop. The "Mac" way of doing it is to drop it into your Applications folder.

When the app is running, you can right click on the icon on the Dock, there should be an option to "Keep" it there. Then when you click on the icon on the dock it launches the program. Running programs on the Dock have a black triangle to show that it's active.

Ok so I'm keeping Xchat and Firefox there, but there are still those "mounted" install files on the desktop, your saying I should drag them into the applications directory?

Alright then firfox and xchat installed...

now what music player should I install? I use winamp on windows, and xmms on linux... is there anything close to the same on mac? mostly I just want the global shortcut keys for play next previous and pause (stop if you got it) and the ability to search out songs quick is nice too (like the FindIt plugin for winamp does would be sweet but not required.)

any suggestions?

Also looking for a video player quick time just doesn't do it for me... I like media player classic on window cause it will play just about anything... and it has a fairly decent gui (primative yes, but it gets the job done and then some.)

Well, there is iTunes obviously, but it is not nearly as good as XMMS or Winamp...
