Yeah, but the danger comes in from doing what we used to do with them... cuz I presume we weren't the only ones. We used to throw them as high up in the air as possible and hope we could get out of the way. And the ever popular "throw it over the house and see how close to the circle you can get" game with people standing on both sides..... aaahhh... how I miss my youth. |

We used to take squash balls and cut a slit on each side of the ball and put them in gasoline and then at night... quickly push the Jart blade through the 2 slits, ignite the ball with a lighter and chuck the thing back and forth at very long distances in the pitch black of night.
Really beautiful, totally moronic, dangerous as all get out with the flaming gas dripping from the ball and flying everywhere like Napalm BUT a great memory of the stupidity of my Teen years.
Another one... football helmets and Jarts after dark. Absolutely scary and thrilling at the same time. I recall a number of near misses and a couple "glancing blows" off of my helmet and my buddies too. You'd see stars for a couple seconds and then shake it off and go right back to chucking them as high as you could in the dark.
I can remember my mom asking us what we were doing in the backyard after midnight, in the dark with Jarts and football helmets and us actually telling her and her response was,
"You kids. You're crazy!"
As a parent now... I'd NEVER even allow a set of Jarts within 2 miles of my daughter. Too much can go wrong. I think our parents (I'm 41) back then were either naive or just didn't freak out about as much stuff as we do now. |
