Hey,

I want to put an HP partition load on a Sun system. Has anyone heard of this being done before? Just curious.

what exactly are you trying to accomplish? UFS partitions are more or less interchangable, but HPUX and Solaris aren't interchangable.

I didn't think they were interchangeable... I was just approached with this "concept" and heard that it could be done, but I didn't think it was possible, so I'm just wondering if there is such a thing as doing that, maybe adding some kind of extra boot partition...

You could load an HP system partition on a Sun SAN, and attach an HP system to the fabric and point the HP system at that fiber attached "disk" for boot, and boot that partition. Booting an NFS partition? Ugly, but doable, so, you could even build the HP system on an NFS served Sun storage unit (SAN or host-based) and yeah, you could boot. It'd perform like crap, though.

I think both Sun and HP use Emulex cards for the fiber fabric. It's a 2GB/sec standard, as long as you are using the same cards, I think it'll work. I haven't tried it with a Sun SAN. I have run Sun boxes off of an HP SAN, so I think the reverse should work.
