Post Posted: Tue Jan 18, 2005 2:29 pm   Post subject: What is the Best Large Quanity Hardrive Deal? Reply with quote Back to top

I have posted about this before but I have finally decided it is time to do it. I am building a 2 terabyte raid array for my self. I am trying to keep the cost down as much as I can though. So I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions of what hard drives to buy. Since I will be buying a lot of them standard rebates don't usally apply since they are limited to one per house hold.

The hard drives need to be reliable, have a good warrenty, and have a large enough capacity so I don't need like 20 drives.

So ontop of looking for good brands and hard drives I am also looking for specific online retailers that have good prices on the hard drive.

I have been looking for some 200GB-300Gb drives and with the exception of a few deals here and there...

Newegg seems to have some of the best deals.

you cna get yor basic 200GB drives starting around 111$ (Western Digital) about 10-20 more for Seagates.

The 300gb and up drives tend to become a bit more expensive.

Did you want to go SCSI, SATA, or PATA? Confused

NewEgg has a 300GB SATA going fer $194.50 each shipped (limit 20)... Big Smile That seems to be the better bargains using the SATA interface...

What RAID setup are you gonna use? 0, 1, 0+1, 5? Confused

Didn't really think about it, I guess I would rather have SATA but if the deal is right with PATA i would go with that. I think SCSI is out of my price range

You know that with RAID 5...yer gonna need another drive above what you use fer yer files... Wink Smile

So with the 300GB drives, you would need 7 drives to make to approximately 2 terrabytes. You would need an 8th drive to control it all... Wink Smile

Approximately $1556 fer all 8 300GB drives shipped... Big Smile
